CONCLUSION Now we can see clearly that there is a very important reason for elders to have specific qualifications. It is designed to prevent the wolves from seizing control over the churches. As a church, we must hold on to these qualifications and demand that our leaders strive to remain qualified. We need to look out for those among us, both men and women, who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers. We must guard against teachers that are looking for money or power. We must not just listen to what a person says but examine their works. As Jesus said, “You will know them by their fruit.” A defiled person will produce defiled work. Yet, what mercy God has that the Gospel still invites the wicked to be saved. “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.” Isaiah 55:7 But those that trust in their own goodness, that in their heart they know they are good, they are deceived. Without being regenerated, without being born again, the heart is worthless. We need to be praying that God enlighten our minds on consciences by his word and that he will sanctify us. As David prayed, create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a right spriit within me.
