CONCLUSION Next week we will take some time and try to wrap up our study in Genesis. But before we end I would like to make one application that I think is necessary for us. We must remember the words of Joseph. “You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good.” This is a clear statement of the sovereignty of God. But his sovereignty is not just some distant theological idea. It’s not just saying that we can recite to people or write in a get well soon card. It is the truth. Jesus said of himself, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Paul says in Ephesians that Jesus is, “far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.” All things are “under his feet.” And he is “head over all things.” Do you believe this. He is not just your authority when you get to heaven. Jesus is not just the authority when he returns physically to the earth. He is the authority right now. In this age and the one to come. “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.” (Colossians 2:8-10).
