13. Melchizedek Genesis 14:18 “And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. (He was priest of God Most High.)” The Messianic Psalm 110, mentions that Messiah would be a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. The author of Hebrews makes it clear, “Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.” 14. The Provider Genesis 22:14, “So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”. Who is Jehovah Jireh? In Philippians 4:19 it says, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” 15. The Ladder Genesis 28:12 “And he dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it!” Jesus said in John 1:51, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” 16. The Peniel Genesis 32:30 So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel, saying, “For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.” This is what Jacob said after wrestling the man. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 4:6, “For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. In Hebrews, we are told that Jesus, “is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature.” To know Jesus is to see the face of God. 17. The Wrongfully Convicted. Genesis 39:20 “And Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined, and he was there in prison.” Like Joseph who was not guilty yet was convicted of a crime Isaiah prophesied of one who “was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.” On the way to the Mount of Olives, Jesus told his disciples, “For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors.’ For what is written about me has its fulfillment.” Luke 22:37. 18. The Storehouse Genesis 41:56 “So when the famine had spread over all the land, Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe in the land of Egypt.” Jesus said, “Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you.” We are told that in Jesus, “the fullness of God was pleased to dwell.” We are told often in the New Testament that the we have the riches of God in Christ Jesus. 19. The Salvation Genesis 49:18. “I wait for your salvation, O Lord.” This is what I pointed out when we looked at chapter 49. The salvation that all the patriarchs were waiting for was found in Jesus. There were other saviors along the way. But none of them brought true salvation. The judges and King David provided temporary salvation because in the end, the people still died. But in Christ was found eternal life.
